Medical & Dental Clinic

The Ol Malaika Trust, Lions Bluff Lodge, and Lumo Conservancy joined forces to plan and execute a three-day medical and dental clinic in the Bura and Maktau areas. It was a momentous occasion and the results were extraordinary, with the medical team of 12 managing to treat a whopping 116 patients who required various medical needs and 57 patients who needed dental care, which included 5 refills, 2 X-rays, and 50 extractions.

Moreover, the sub-county health officers were able to administer 20 COVID vaccinations, 1st dose 2, 2nd dose 1, and boosters to 17 patients and screened 37 patients for eye issues.

The event was graced by the Public Health office, Mr. Kiptoo, and Lumo Board member, Mr. John Kori, who witnessed the monumental success of the clinic. The community appreciated the event and requested for more similar clinics, looking forward to improved dental and medical services. The high turnout of patients indicated the need for increased medical personnel and more frequent clinics.

These are clinics conducted in partnership with the Ol-Malaika Trust. The clinics offer general medical care and dental care. So far, we have successfully done 8 medical and dental clinics. Each year, we anticipate conducting 2 camps for the LUMO community in March and October. This year, we have introduced the clinic for the Samburu community.

For 2024 October, the camp was conducted at Kiltamany Comprehensive School and Gir Gir Comprehensive School on the 15th & 16th, and 17th & 18th of October 2024 respectively, to serve the communities at Kiltamany, part of Westgate, and the community in the Archers Post region. This was in partnership with the Olmalaika Trust as the main organizer, with Soroi Collection, Soroi Larsens Camp, and the County Government of Samburu. Services provided for community members: the clinic offered dental care, which included X-rays, extractions, fillings, root canals, cleaning, and consultation.

The trust came with a team of 8, 4 dentists, and 4 support persons. We also had 2 dentists and 1 support staff from the County Government of Samburu, the Department of Health, and youth 4 youth volunteers from the community to help translate Samburu to English.
