What We Do

We are actively engaged in environmental conservation by setting up initiatives like no use of plastic, planting trees and community clean-up exercises.

Environmental Initiatives

No Plastic Use & Tree Planting: “In order to maintain eco-friendliness, we avoid using plastic and instead utilize only biodegradable and natural products. Additionally, each shower has a bucket to collect cold water, which is reused to water plants. Fallen and rotten trees are repurposed for the campfire, and the natural bush surroundings are not interfered with by cutting grass or bushes.
Clean Up & Sorting of Waste Matter: All waste matter is sorted by the lodge, including plastic, glass, and metal, and is sent to Nairobi for responsible disposal on a weekly basis. The only waste left in Lumo is biodegradable food scraps, which are disposed of in accordance with NEMA regulations in a pit.

Collaborate with Local Community: We actively engage and collaborate with the local community to coordinate and execute clean-up initiatives in the conservancy and its surrounding areas. Additionally, we regularly meet with local authorities to discuss wildlife and the community’s well-being.”

CWC Eco Rangers: On 16, September 2023, CWC launched CWC Eco Rangers. A movement that involves primary school pupils from age 8 years to 15 years, to create awareness of the importance of wildlife conservation among the primary school pupils, that is, the younger generation. A total of 225 pupils were enrolled in the movement both at LUMO and Samburu. The aim is to create a championship among children and their peers, as they grow up to becoming conservation ambassadors. The movement started by doing a clean-up activity at LUMO Conservation area and Archers Post- Samburu, to understand the importance of taking care of the environment. The students lead other peers in activities environmental-related activities.
