Secondary School Bursary

During the month, CWC awarded 5 beneficiaries of the secondary school bursary from the 2023 KCPE candidates. 3 are from the LUMO Community and 2 of them are from the Samburu community. The three winners from LUMO represented three ranches, Lualenyi, Mramba, and Oza. These students obtained 392, 382, and 348 marks, securing chances to join Kenyatta High School, Chogoria Girls High School, and Dr. Aggrey High School consecutively.

Together with Soroi Larsens Camp and Soroi Samburu Lodge, CWC launched for the first time a secondary school scholarship in Samburu. The sponsorship involved 10 schools in Archer’s post and fully covers the tuition fees, from form 1 to form 4, of the top student from the zone.  For the 2023 KCPE, the top student scored 387 marks and was from Lorubae Primary School who got admitted to Meru School. In addition to the organization paying the tuition fees, it went the extra mile of helping the parents do the student’s school shopping by catering 75% of the shopping budget, something out of the sponsorship provision.

Also, CWC sponsored a girl who was second in the region, as the girl’s family could not raise funds for her education. The girl scored 382 marks, from the Waso Muslim primary and got a chance to join Chogoria Girls’ High School.

CWC does follow up with their sponsorship beneficiaries, to check out on their way of conduct while in school.

Clean-up Activity at Archers Post

On Saturday, 10th February, 2024, we conducted the clean-up at archers’ post town, as well as launching the Plastics for Books project. 4 primary schools and 3 secondary schools each being represented by 10 students and 2 teachers.

Each of them got a certificate of participation and a general one for the school. Also, two youth groups participated, Exotica FC and Transform Samburu Affirmative Project, each group getting a certificate, and the latter group getting a t-shirt and a roll-up banner.
Local leaders, including the area chief, the ward administrator and the village administrator, all vouched to continue with community sensitization on plastic and waste management at Archers Post township. The proceeds will then be used to buy textbooks for the students, football kits for the soccer team and supportive items for the Samburu Affirmative group. A total of 229 kgs of plastics were collected.

Samburu Vocational and Training College

In addition to the financial support we offer towards our beneficiaries, we do follow up on their academics and their way of conduct while studying. In February, we visited some of our college sponsorship students at Samburu Vocational and Training College. We got the opportunity to interact with students while at their practical lesson and meet the college administrator to discuss their academics and discipline. They have done their end-of-module one exams and they will proceed with their industrial practice in May 2024 in our lodge partners at Soroi collection.
The college principal expressed interest in the college being involved in the environmental activities we do in the region. She also mentioned going forward, our sponsorship should consider young gentlemen, who are done with Form 4 and mostly end up engaging in cattle rustling and other unethical activities. This also creates a social imbalance as most organizations are empowering girls leaving out young men

Our Support

Community Service

We distributed 25 eco-friendly bottles to every ranger at LUMO Community Wildlife Conservancy, a donation from Kampur Travel Diaries. The bottles are doubled – walled vacuum insulated, to ensure maintenance of temperature of their drinks whether under the hot sun during the day, or during cold night as they do their patrols.
Also, supported the Kenya Wildlife Service – Maktau Branch with snacks to support pre-ceding activities to World Wildlife Day – 3rd March. Led by the Tsavo Southern Sector Warden, Mr.Kavi, the Maktau KWS team and the community members, desilted a community water pan, which when holds rain water, will reduce the pressure livestock put in the water pans in the conservancy and the park, thus holding more water for the
