So far, we have collected and recycled a total of 2599 kgs of plastics and distributed 385 textbooks.
Interesting facts;

  • It is estimated that recycling 1 kg of plastic saves about 1.5 to 3 kg of CO₂ emissions.
  • Therefore, recycling 1500kg of plastic can prevent 3898 to 7797 kg of CO₂ from being released into the atmosphere.
  • The production of new plastic from raw materials requires much more energy compared to recycling existing plastic.
  • Recycling 2599 kg of plastic can save up to 15,022 kWh of energy.
  • This is equivalent to the energy consumption of an average household for about 16 months.

So far, our ‘Plastics for Books’ project has gradually grown since its launch in September 2024. So far, we have made 40 cages to the 38 primary schools in the LUMO and Samburu communities and 2 youth groups in Samburu. From the schools, and 3 organized clean-ups, we have managed to collect and recycle 2599 kilograms of Plastics. The schools we are partnering with include; Zare School, Mruru School, Wumari School, Sechu School, Bura School, Mbagha School, Kilulunyi School, St. James School, Mwangea School, Mwavunyu School, Mrughua School, Mnamu School, St.Johns Primary, Iyale Primary, Lushangonyi Primary, St. Georges Mwaroko, Mlughi School, Godoma School, Mwashuma School, Mnegwa School, Msorongo School, Maktau School, Kongoni School, Marungu School, St. Peter Ikuminyi, Mlamba School, Mwanda School, Vuria School, Ndumbinyi, Nyolo School and Mwashoti School.
